Vet says ok to ride: walk/jog!!
liberty yesterday:
1. figure 8--Try seems to really get it now
2. stick to me--good at walk trot stop back, my use of stick
3. circle transitions trot to walk to halt to back good
Parelli horsemanship study notes--a diary to promote my study. I'm using this blog for my personal motivation and to keep of record of what Try and I are doing. SORRY to any readers who happen this way--this blog may only be interesting or entertaining to me.

Thursday
Keystone: warmup and then trot and canter cloverleaf patterns. Then round pen for first attempt at carrot stick riding. Keystone was great--we were turning fluidly with the stick aided by body weight, leg and just a touch of rein. Great start and what a sweet guy!
Try: still no riding, walking only. Great day also--the best liberty figure 8 ever, the best lead by the tail ever. etc. light and late.

Keystone Thursday
Lesson w/BA freestyle riding: some confusion as to what is level 1/2 freestyle as I was at double D when Try and I learned this AND it was a complete non issue for Try and I.
point to point: wow--Keystone really sped up in trot and nearly cantered!!
lateral flexion/disengage HQ coming along
sideways on the fence better (online)
9 step back up--confusion between BA and I--not as good as yesterday.
In lesson setting I did not get as much dwell and hang out and take my time etc time as yesterday with just Keyston and I.
Today did one rein riding throwing rope over Keystone's head--was glad to have BA. Standing still Keystone was good--walking and tossing--first time Keystone took off (remember next time one rein stop.) so did walk stop toss, then figure 8 stop in the middle toss and then did not need the stop.
next time w/BA--regular lesson then start carrot stick riding in the round pen. Keystone is head shy so this is good for him but different for me because with Try the issue was that she ignored the stick or just got annoyed.

Try and figure 8
1. Try didn't offer the figure 8 but we did it 3x at liberty--I stayed pretty close and cued the send lightly and used lots of draw cues.
2. Stop over the "jump" and sideways towards--have started thinking about cueing the sideways towards from farther away.
3. circle transitions: stop, back, walk etc did on the rail as stick to me--good to try farther away and to re-establish clarity in cue of stick in front as slow down and back cue.
4. backed out of round pen--Try has tendency to rush--session over.
Light, sweet, responsive--sometimes offering sideways towards to snuggle close.

Keystone's first freestyle ride
Rode Keystone bareback with rope "haltamore."
Observations:
1. As LBI, point to point really does work to lengthen a "short" horse.
2. 9 step back up: Keystone stopped on step 1 and quickly began backing on step 5!
3. direct rein--not an issue--duh
4. indirect rein--we did not have it the first few tries, came back to it later and used a little leg on HQ and got a good step (and stopped, rest/reward) each direction.
5. lateral flexion: Keystone did not have the idea at first--gave one treat reward and he was waaaaaaaaaaay lighter from then on.
6. he was less girthy, offered to stand still to mount
7. weave pattern: he moved off my leg in the direction toward the gate. LOL. He ignored my leg in the other direction. However--he is used to hunter hack--turning from rein cues--tho of course he knows to move off leg--just not to turn.
this all in preparation for a freestyle lesson with Keystone, Bethanna and I.
I think he wants us to be together--no brainer, rest, treats, rubs, easy work.

Try offered figure 8
Wow Try offered figure 8 today. She knew the pattern just wasn't motivated before--DUH!! LBI/motivation--right. I gave no treats until I asked for 8 online--when it was correct she got treat--did that a few times. Then stopped thinking about what else to do and Try set out on her own to do figure 8!!!

Lexington Va tour notes
Saturday at Lexington VA tour stop
I felt quite energized and inspired by day watching Pat/Linda/Carol/mastery students in love, language, leadership in 4 savvies. This day was geared toward bringing in new members to savvy club and Parelli study. I took very few notes (see below) and primarily just sat and enjoyed myself with Adelia and Peggy and others, watching, feeling and experiencing the joy that is Parelli horsemanship.
Ideas for fun I noted during demos:
1. turn on the haunches on the tarp
2. in saddle/with carrot stick--canter/halt/backup and canter off yoyo
3. circle game online: from sitting lying down, standing on leathers of rope and allowing rope to coil around feet (while stepping on each coil as it comes around) to bring horse spiraling in
4. Book recommended by Pat: 6 Pixels of Separation: Mitch Joel.
Lexington Sun am session 1 Pat
I watched the warmup demo with Carol Coppinger and mastery students: fun thing to try. tie 2 stick/string together and leave one stick on the ground and use as pivot point to circle.
State of Parelli
We need to learn to speak a consistent message.
What is Parelli? Parelli is a horsemanship club with a vast social network. It is 200,000 and growing. Horsemanship club is like a community of people who put the relationship first, use the 4 savvies as a foundation to sport. Habits and skills horses and humans need to be partners. Social network that makes the world a better place for horses and humans. 207 instructors (96 new). Upcoming index of all savvy club groups.
Dedication--nothing comes from nothing. Passion alone is not enough. Measurement of skill level: 2500 auditions last year.
Lesson with Jason
1. Ideas: 4 feet on pedestal to back feet only
a. Great use of 45’ line
b. Ball—clean it up and get air in it and play with it again.
c. Sit on pedestal and send Try to ball then ask her back for reward
2. Everything means something.
3. Discussed principle 4 of mutual responsibilities
4. Focus as having an object or goal
5. Troy Henry, 3 things needed to solve puzzles, liberty trailer loading, and lead changes.
6. Used clover leaf pattern
7. Look up for downward transitions and to ask for canter
8. Shorten reins without looking down (level 2, drop/pick up/butterfly, ?, transitions)
9. Lengthen and shorten stride
10. Never ending self improvement club
11. Back to basics
12. Vault full of lessons including current lessons with mastery students
13. Rhythm, relaxation, contact
14. Soft feel few strides and release building to 2 or more strides, 10 strides etc
15. Riding sexy
16. Upcoming recognized and certified Parelli centers i.e. 1-5 horseshow ratings.
Sunday in Lexington session 2 Linda
Lesson with Patty and horse that crowds her space
1. Snort: inhale is RB, exhale is LB
2. Big loop in rope to undo rope around the foot
3. Back horse out of your space NOW
4. Send to tarp NOT lead builds horse’s confidence
5. LB Zone1 is magic zone to control feet; RB Zone 5 to control mind.
6. Horse must ask permission and be invited into the human’s space
7. Reread leadership manual
8. Riding Patty needs partial disengagement. Good for Try’s temper tracking right at canter.
9. We must learn to not tolerate RB behavior or tension. Relaxation and quit—the next day horse may relax even sooner
Fall: Fair in Jax Fl with vendors, games, etc. people can bring their horses. Pagosa will be performance oriented with experts in different fields who use Parelli as their foundation.
Sunday in Lexington session 3 Linda and Remmer and Finesse breakthrough
1. Remmer is offering the contact (full body), power, Linda is using biceps/triceps to motivate.
2. Note: partial disengagement would be good for Try's canter temper tantrums. Do both ways, wait for relaxation--watch again in Feb mastery dvd.
3. go back and reread Savvy times "Ultimate Training Method" Linda article. calm, trust, motivated and obedient.
4. Recent break thru--article will appear in May Savvy Times.
5. Point to point
If you don't take contact I will.
pilates
1. engage seat thigh/wrap
2. belly button to spine/rounds lower back
3. knit ribs,
4. armhole slide down the body
biceps triceps
go for private Pilates lesson Jackie and discuss
good for me to ride Keystone
Remmer wants to go forward.
When Remmer is going good--Linda uses tricep muscles, Remmer slows, loses position etc then Linda uses bicep muscles.
Monday in Lexington Gold session
I did not take notes on these sessions of question and answer and upcoming opportunities with Pat and Linda plus more finesse info from Linda. It was a small (125?) group with an intimacy I had not experienced before with all of the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere I love from the Parelli program.
Misc notes, ideas, todos from Lexington
1. call Amy Haire
2. more Parelli riding time
3. split group ask for suggestions i.e. geographical, discipline, levels, interests, savvies etc
4. ask group who wants to be ambassador
5. wonder if Kelly, Annie could do real time video coaching via camera phone?
6. what are Pat’s 12 points?
7. memorize stuff like 8 principles
8. once a week freestyle ride bareback patterns
9. get w/ba on finesse intro--what the rider does in her body--taking a little contact and then release
10. focus up for downward transitions, transition up into canter
11. private Pilates lesson
12. mail bareback pad and Pilates dvd to Adelia
13. check out vault for new mastery student sessions
14. fun canter yoyos
15. consider relaxation and partial disengagement
16. put together kk headstall rope reins and ride in western saddle
17. reread mastery manual on leadership
18. talk w/Mary Manning on video issue
Ideas for Sand Savvy

4. group desensitization game
5. all about auditions
6. Parelli games
7. Group trail rides
8. Freestyle
