Lots of dwell time, eating clover etc.
Lots of stroking, extreme friendly--I was surprized to find that I needed to take some time for Try to remember this game--at first she was hesitant and would swing her HQ away. I did not get to helicopter from Zone 5.
sidepass barrels--did at liberty--she will do it but preferred to roll them away with her nose. how interesting.
Jump towards me and back: ok, needed a little slap on the ground with string to cue her to actually jump, back was a little crooked. BUT jumps were relaxed.
45' line circling: walk, trot, downward transitions and disengage HQ all good--breaking gait at the canter--she was very relaxed and laid back and did not want to canter. I was able to recoil as she walked back to me. Need to go back to 22' (even if w/45' line) and get the canter for 6-10 laps.
riding: free style western saddle, posting trot lightly in stirrups w/carrot stick, canter w/ no stick or reins and very relaxed.
Parelli horsemanship study notes--a diary to promote my study. I'm using this blog for my personal motivation and to keep of record of what Try and I are doing. SORRY to any readers who happen this way--this blog may only be interesting or entertaining to me.

Saturday, March 28 Muddy day at the barn!
Well, after 4 days of rain and cold, I finally got to the barn today.
Spent much time grooming, stroking, loving on Try which she seemed to enjoy.
Thought as an online quickie I would review sidepassing 4 barrels in an L shape. First I started close by and we got to 4th barrel and she either panicked or decided she had enough and she jumped out of the pattern. So I went to one barrel and gave a treat. Then lined up two and she did them easily with me farther away and cueing less and even offered to do a third barrel that was nearby.
Finished with no stirrups etc in the VERY muddy ring. Made an inner circle where the footing was a bit better. I have no idea how far we went--not as much as usual I'm sure BUT I felt very strong and in control. (A little sore from it on Sunday.)

Monday, March 23
Tara filmed Try and I: messing around w/cavaletti pole, sidepass, straddle. Jump towards me started, touch it game, circling game to study ear pinning. Amazing how quickly time goes that was nearly 10 minutes of film w/o transitions. The audition will need to be carefully choreographed.
Try was offering lots of stuff to me but not waiting and listening to me.
Also no stirrups--I am not as strong as 2 weeks ago. Canter was relaxed both leads.

ONLINE SAVVY DAY
Today we had a lovely day playing. My goal was to be aware of our respective body language, rather than the task and frankly, I was not able to do so to the extent I would like.
We played: touch it with a frisbie, the tarp and the stump. Figure 8 around the cones, Try pins her ears at me, so we did circling and she was still pinning ears. Also did traveling circles and changes of direction (S patterns, falling leaf). Side passed the pole and sidepass at a trot on the rail. yoyo: trotting to me. Stick to me starting at a canter. I didn't film but did not think energy was an issue.
Issues/Questions:
1. do I really need to be concerned about ear pinning? if the ears are only 1/2 way back???
2. what will it take to focus on body language?
3. when to quit asking? she quits--how is she supposed to know to keep going or quit?
4. review S patterns and falling leaf
Saturday discussed jumps with vet karen bullock--I am not going to ask for 3' jumps.

Thursday, March 19 Trail Ride
After being sick Sunday-Wednesday, today I CELEBRATED feeling good with a lovely trail ride "lesson" with Bethanna, Try and Hannah--beautiful day, just enjoying each others company.
did warmup in arena with a little canter on the right lead to help Try find the relaxation she needs for Morgan.
Love you Try!!

Comments:
Figure 8, big energy--can she be relaxed and keep a good trot?
Pick another pattern or obstacle for big E?? Side pass cavaletti??
Canter: ?? western saddle canter right lead on the rail until . . . alternate w/small circles ?

Thursday, March 12
1. Hannah: catch me--took toy with me and rolled it around, Hannah sniffed it, rolled it then later came back and rolled it to where I was sitting and reading. This is day 5 and she has not come to me. Perhaps I need to spend more time??
2. Charlie: grooming mane, forelock, brushing--other horses coming to check me out--Try jealous and I needed to drive her away.
3. Try: mosey to barn included hanging at Hannah's gate so BA could get Hannah.
4. Pattern: figure 8 in parelli play paddock. Used two barrels set farther apart. Goal: increased Energy--WOW--huge energy coming from an initial phase 2-3 lifting stick and swinging string near her plus asking her to change direction. Issue now is am I ready for a bigger Energy?
5. dwell time in the area for 15 minutes before riding lesson.
6. Lesson: no stirrups posting trot for 4 laps, 6 laps 2 pt, trot posting and serpentine etc then canter 3 w/simple change and canter on the right lead--pounding and nervous, I lost footing in left stirrup. BA had me go 7 laps to right and she did not settle. Finished w/one lap BA riding to get her relaxed.
7. Cool down and dwell in paddock good eats while I cleaned saddle.

Wednesday, March 11 Lots of Horses
day off for Try: dwell time, scratches, treats
watched Haylee swap leads on her own, tired. Moi: friendly game around her head, Tara bathed her and spent about 30 minutes taking her to all the good eats grassy places while she was drying, she was in no hurry to leave Tara, and came to me in the pasture.
Hannah: dwell time--sat in her pasture and read for 30 minutes. She came partially to me, checked me out and then ignored me. Next time--take interesting things with me.
Charlie: he is so friendly, started to rub him, found rain rot, scratched much of it away. BA suggested sweat scraper--I used it and got lots of shedded hair. No lines, halter, etc. he seemed to really love the attention.
Try got jealous.

Tuesday, March 10 Magic Day!!
Today the weather was beautiful and I had a wonderful time messing with my buddy Try.
1. Brought her in and saved her from having her teeth floated.
2. Played put your foot on the frisbie--nose easy 3x, took a little while for foot
3. passenger in the arena w/gate open--Try took off at a jog around on the rail but found no horsey buddies then realized she could leave the arena--she/we went up the road to the other barn, she checked out the shavings bin, then walked around the trailer--she would like to have left the property but I decided to save that for another day.
4. Back at the arena she was in a good mood, good energy, we cantered cloverleaf patterns freestyle, w. saddle, haltamore, I felt really secure even when she was heavy on the front end--did not need stirrups just my seat--felt I have improved doing all the English no stirrups posting trot.
5. I watched Tara and Haylee walk trot canter--amazing. Meanwhile Try was in parelli play paddock with water and good eats.
6. last Tara filmed Try and I some of seven games with the goal increased energy and rewarding it with rest and food. Film looks pretty good YEAH

Monday, March 9 Squeeze game, E/nagging, Passenger etc
Watched RFD program on 7 games: squeeze and decided that I wanted to see where Try and I were with it. Paddock behind the barn: technique pretty good, a little nagging and Try sluggish--I was just concerned about relaxation, technique and Try doing the allow and disengage calmly.
Well DUH--of course it was calm that is Try not the horse on the video.
It would be really good to film this to see where I am nagging and expect a bit more energy from Try.
In fact, good to film all the basic 7 games from a L1/L2 perspective to see what is going on. Ask Tara if she will film tomorrow.
Followup: Phoned hot line. (?Berin)
1. Squeeze game low E/nagging: start a program of rewarding her energy with rest/treat. Attitude of justice--my intention is important. NOT darn you stop being so lazy but sweetie I'm just upping my phases to help you have more energy.
2. My boredom w/passenger lesson: it is just undemanding time (3 most imp ways to be w/ horse, undemanding time, lateral flexion, transportation). OK if not practicing mirroring her if she just wants to go and stand.
3. No stirrups is great--just don't only ride w/o stirrups because when you go back may be stiff. Variety is the key. Thought the English riding lessons a good thing.

Monday, March 9 Passenger Lesson and No Stirrups
After Florida trip and then being sick and Try being at horse show Fri-Sun, I finally got to see Try today.
Gold materials on riding and developing independant seat arrived over the weekend. Try and I did a 15 minute passenger lesson before I got really bored as she had no interest in even moving, then did 3 laps of no stirrups.
Passenger: At first Try just wanted to go be with Crescent, Shirley and Angel. I was not comfortable letting her touch them as I knew the next thing would be squeeling and spooking. We just stood a few feet away and did nothing, when I asked her to go away she circled back to them. Finally, she substituted the judges stand for the other horses i.e. Aren't you ready to get off my back yet? (I was bareback with halter and lead.)
?? Repeat this tomorrow in western saddle??
