In and out

Seems like this winter consistency has been the issue with the coldest, rainy-est weather I remember.

This past weekend--great clinic with Kelly Sigler at Mary's and gorgeous 60 degree weather. Now its rainy and cold again--even a little snow yesterday.

Try has stifle injury--first injury in the 7+ years I have known here. She is on stall rest as she was pacing in the paddock and not improving. We are going for walks together a couple times a day. The only thing I learned from the weekend I've been practicing is haltering with greater finesse. We have been enjoying being together and are looking forward to spring.

I'm Back

well I have taken a break: holidays, weather, etc and am starting over so to speak. During the past two months I've read/studied a little, followed Parelli happenings a bit, continued my riding lessons, and played some on the ground.

yesterday Try and I played with stopping over a jump--we got so Try would trot to the jump then walk front feet over and stop. Also played with figure 8 to the right only as that is the way that is weakest--online but cueing with stick/string to stop forward motion after the turn so she will come to me. Next time: trying backing up when I cue.

BFO liberty: test of quality and quantity of attention span

wow--new perspective on liberty!! new levels are so good.

Saturday, November 28, 2009

Sat - magic day

level3 liberty basics:

1. enter and remove halter to promote stick to me--she easily moved her HQ as I did this.
2. friendly side and do more friendly--I did this
3. porky: lead by ears, legs w/string--wow we have never done part of this and she was light, following the feel and then suggestion
4. driving: which end does the halte go on/ HQ yield 2 eyes/stick behind the back/FQ yield--sharpen up--HQ yield much more responsive
5. stick to me: let stick and string drag and practice/sharpen up/ including back and trot good at this level
6. sideways from zone 1 get smallest try/reward/get off it--she understands this from pendalum rhythm--watch Annie again and then take this further.

Riding: posting trot and a couple circles of canter in baretek pad.

Next session: check all above and add catching attention game. from fig 8 or HQ yield/2 eyes.

1. flick rope and hold halter
2. coil coil coil and flick--looking at tail
3. look for ears, ?
4. spiral out to walk away take pressure off

TEST OF LENGTH AND QUALITY OF ATTENTION SPAN

3 days off Thanksgiving - new parelli levels packs

For Saturday plan

coming in from pasture: driving in zones 3-5
remember dwell/passenger

warmup then pattern #4 being more particular
Try didn't pick up canter immediately (left over from baretek over weekend) did walk, halt, back canter with intention to fix that ....
